High Porcelain. Lladró
2009 / 2012
At the beginning of the year,
Lladró commissioned us to provide the photography for a new publication that would be showcasing the brand's most exclusive pieces.
Their size, the work involved in them, their extreme fragility, the tremendous scenic detail of some of them, the variety of shapes and textures and the complex nature of photographing them were all factors that made this commission a real challenge for the studio from a photographic point of view.
With the project already well underway, the company then asked us to design the magazine. With very few pages per piece, the result had to achieve a balance between the pace, dynamism and evocative quality of a magazine and the descriptive and informative facet of a catalogue.
Client: Lladró
Designers: Josep Gil, Susi Martínez, María López
Photography: Josep Gil
Size: 27 x 32 cm (closed)

The first issue of the magazine included a article on the creation of porcelain at Lladró. This covered the whole artisan process, from the sculpture through to researching the decoration of the pieces and then on to production, firing, etc. Up to now, this information had never been described in such detail.

Once again, we dispensed with the use of props, showcasing the pieces with a play of light and shadows and with certain textures to set the scene. The double page spread measurements, 54 x 32 cm, allowed us to feature large format images.
This issue had a fold-out centrefold for one of the pieces, extending to 106 x 32 cm in a single shot. These publication sizes are proportional to the size of the pieces and demonstrate the level of detail and the results that Lladró achieves by totally artisan means, while still retaining the perspective of the piece as a whole.
